Bush wants to tamper with the Constitution under the quise of protecting marriage. Well, I'm surprised because I know of no marriages that were ended because gays want the protections of a legal union. No, all the divorces I'm aware of are usually the result of the growing economic pressures that strain so many relations.

If Bush really cared about saving marriages, why have his policies not been more directed at helping the quickly disappearing "middle class"? Why is it that his Administration has only hurt American workers more than help them? Instead we have policies that are geared more to helping elitist and big corporations to whom the Bush Administration is so heavily mortgaged to.

The Christian Right that Bush is so obviously blatantly catering to in such an insincere way, should wake up to the hypocrisy of this cruel hoax.

Let's Get Real About An Energy Program

There are some very important reasons why nuclear power plants are highly regulated. Not only are they dangerous, constantly producing horrible waste impossible to safely store, but they are also some damn good targets for terrorists, mentally unbalanced persons and even acts of nature. Yet today, I watched President Dubya Bush say that it should be made easier to build new nuclear power plants.

Duh, what has nuclear power to do with freeing us from what he calls a "foreign tax" that "our citizens pay every day in higher gasoline prices"???

Rather than refer to energy-independent countries like Denmark which have made wind energy an important part of their power production, Bush chose to point out that France gets 78% of its electricity "from safe clean nuclear power". Anyone else remember how the Bush Administration was quick to mock France because of their resistance to go along with an illegal invasion of Iraq?

Bottom line is that instead of backing his words of "energy independence", he is deliberately pulling an evil "Bait & Switch" on us.

How are new oil refineries on closed military bases (which otherwise revert back to the ownership of local communities) going to make us less dependent on this "foreign tax" of oil? - Truth is that the American Oil Industry, which heavily contributed to Bush's election, will only continue to reap record profits from foreign oil.

Instead of making us wait decades for the development of hydrogen fuel cells while oil companies continue to exploit remaining oil supplies, Bush could use his powers to enact higher fuel efficiency standards - but he'd rather we drive gas-guzzling SUVs. More significantly, he could use his powers to mandate that the already proven use of hydrogen fuel (as opposed to still-unavailable fuel cells) become readily available through the use of clean wind power (instead of his nuclear suggestion). I know of a large wind project in Oklahoma that was halted by a lack of transmission lines. But in that windy area, it could be built to create a lot of hydrogen fuel. Not only can every existing car and truck be retrofitted to run on hydrogen fuel, but this clean fuel would have moisture as an exhaust into our drying planet, not toxic pollutants.

It is revealing that while Bush talked about "clean coal" and "safe nuclear power", his administration has actually made cuts in renewable energy programs. By not setting higher standards for the use of truly clean, safe, renewable power, the Bush Administration only continues to pay back those special interests to which it is mortgaged, while surrendering our leadership role for a better world.

My name is Hank, and those are my convictions. I see my best wishes being betrayed by outright Big Oil greed and the special interests of those whom would rather put tolls and controls upon us for their elitist gains.
